Teaching children to listen

It’s funny how something that has been a staple statement across a lot of child care services, like “turn on your listening ears” for so many years can be challenged in such a good way with just one sentence.

The industry as a whole seems to be moving towards teaching children about their choices and the impact of those choices and this statement I heard today just helps sum up a great way of expressing that to children (and some adults too).

“It’s not about turning your listening ears on because they are already on your head and that’s what they do. It’s about making the choice to use them and listen and choosing to show respect to the person that is talking. Listening is a great way to show respect. Isn’t it?”
